A new indoor water park, Wild WaterDome, has opened at Wilderness at the Smokies in East Tennessee. The waterpark spans more than 60,000 square feet with a see-through, energy-efficient Foil Tec roof that lets guests tan indoors year-round. The facility features the Smokies SurfRider, Tennessee’s only surfing simulator. The Surf Rider uses 50,000 gallons of water a minute to create a continuously moving sheet of water on which people can surf or boogie board. The Wild WaterDome also includes the Storm Chaser, a four-person tube slide that begins with a 58-foot drop into a giant orange-and-white funnel where riders swoosh back and forth up the sides of the funnel. Other activities at the waterpark, which is reserved exclusively for resort guests, include a 10,000-square-foot wave pool, two tube slides, an indoor/outdoor hot spa, a multi-level play structure with a gigantic dumping bucket and 50-plus play-and-spray features. Plus, there is a special toddler area with mini-slides and a swing tree.
Wilderness at the Smokies, the region’s first full-service waterpark resort, also unveiled the property’s 472 multi-room suites conveniently connected to the Wild WaterDome. The units include three different floor plans ranging from one to three bedrooms designed to accommodate up to 16 guests. Phase I of Wilderness at the Smolies opened in June 2008 with a 234-room hotel and outdoor waterpark adjacent to the 240,000-square-foot Sevierville Events Center. The resort will be unveiling a second outdoor waterpark next to the Wild WaterDome in the summer of 2009. The developers are the owners of Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, America’s Largest Waterpark Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Tornado headed for Sevierville, TN!
Today the crew is working on assembling the Tennessee Tornado, also referred to as the Hurricane in Wisconsin.
(The funnel ride is all about size. Pumping approximately 10,000 gallons of water per minute and towering an estimated 75 feet in the air. Riders are placed in two or four person tubes, facing one another while they spin, twirl and screech around the walls of the funnel until they’re eventually plunked down into the black hole and water. A hit with all ages, this is a ride designed especially for families and groups of friends to experience a thrill like few others) - Waterpark Resorts Today, Aquatics International

Wilderness Event Center Hotel Grand Opening!
After just a year of construction, the Wilderness Event Center Hotel is now open! 125 rooms checked in just last night! Things are going great and we are so excited to welcome out first guests. We still have a bit to do until things run seamless, but we could not have asked for more of a successful grand opening. Salamander Springs Waterpark (our 20,000 sq ft outdoor park) is also open, along with the Coyote Cafe, Hidden Trail Bar and Grill and Black Bear Boutique.
We celebrated our Grand Opening Celebration for Phase I on Thursday, June 26th at 10:00 am in the Wilderness at the Smokies Hotel Lobby. Monty the Moose was the first guest in that day to get his key to his room! The ceremony was lead by the General Manager, David McGregor, with words given by town and city authorities, the State department, Jim Caulkin of the Bridgemont Group and Wilderness's own, Pat Helland. Hotel tours and construction overviews were given following the ceremony along with light appetizers and drinks in the new Deep Creek Conference Room. A great time was had by all-and the City of Sevierville is so proud to have Wilderness at the Smokies as part of their bright future for generations to come!
I invite you to visit us to see for yourself what an amazing place we have created in the hottest tourist destination in the South!
